Knubby was born near Brownsburg, VA in 1917. He attended the University of Virginia, where he was captain of the football team. He later became the athletic director at Episcopal High School in Alexandria, VA, and was then made head football coach at Washington and Lee University in Lexington.

Rosa was born in Petersburg, VA, in 1919. She attended the Collegiate School and then Hollins College, where she was captain of the field hockey and basketball teams.

Knubby and Rosa had five children. Rosy Carrington Heinsohn, of Charlottesville, Nelle Busch of Rockbridge Baths (formerly of Wilson, NC), Ginky Myers of Charlottesville, Leebo McLaughlin, of Rockbridge Baths, and Jim McLaughlin, of Salt Lake City, UT.

They had 19 grandchildren and over 60 great-grandchildren (and counting!), many of whom Rosa knew well.

Knubby passed away in 1969, and, with the help of “Uncle” Sid Walden and his wife, Ann, Rosa continued to successfully run Camp for many decades. Her son, Leebo, and his wife, Nancy, worked alongside her for many years and eventually assumed the roles of directors. Their children, Beezie and Hanley, Lee and Jess, and Lockwood now join them in running Lachlan and Maxwelton.
